UK IHS COST: As a rule, the amount you pay is per person per 12 months of leave granted.
The current United Kingdom immigration health surcharge fees are:
- £470 per year for a student or Youth Mobility Scheme visa (Tier 5) (e.g. £940 for a 2-year visa).
- £624 per year for all other visa and immigration applications (e.g. £3,120 for a 5-year visa).
In most cases, any dependants would also need to pay the same amount of immigration health surcharge.
Note: The exact amount varies depending on how much leave you get granted to stay. But, you can calculate the immigration health surcharge fee before you apply.
An application may include part of a year that amounts to less than 6 months. In this case, you would pay an amount equating to half the 12 month charge (e.g. as per 6 months of leave).
But, some applications will include part of a year that amounts to more than 6 months. In this case you would pay an amount equal to a whole year.
Note: They will not grant a visa or immigration application unless you pay the healthcare surcharge. Likewise, paying the wrong amount will delay applications for immigration and visas.
It is possible to pay the healthcare surcharge fee for more years than you get granted leave to stay in the United Kingdom. In this case and automatic process will grant you a ‘partial’ immigration health surcharge refund.
When to Pay IHS Charge
Most applicants choose to pay immigration health surcharge online. But, you can also apply at a premium service centre. In this case you would need to pay the surcharge as part of your application or when you book your appointment.
If you apply for a visa by post you must pay the IHS payment online before sending in the application.
Note: Remember to include the immigration health surcharge reference number on the application form.
UK Visas and Immigration will contact you if you fail to pay the surcharge (or not enough). The UKVI operate this service as part of the visa or immigration application.
- Within 7 Working Days: For those applying outside the United Kingdom.
- Within 10 Working Days: For those applying inside the United Kingdom.
It is important to pay the correct amount and in full. Failing to do so means they will turn down your application for a visa or immigration status:
