CONSTANT CARE ALLOWANCE: CAA helps to pay for attentive daily care for those who need it most. Receiving constant care means you get personal attention from a carer for a ‘significant period‘ each day.

The extent of care provided can be monitoring, active, or supervisory. You must already get a War Disablement Pension or the Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit to claim Constant Attendance Allowance.

There are 4 different Constant Attendance Allowance rates 2022.

CAA claim criteria relates to the amount of care required and the extent of a physical or mental disability.

Note: Your carer could qualify for the Constant Carers Allowance when caring needs are substantial.

How much is War Pension Constant Attendance Allowance benefit?

Constant care allowance has several different payment rates. The amount of Constant Carers Allowance you get depends on two main factors.

The payments get based on:

  1. The severity of the disability.

  2. How much constant care it requires.

Claiming the ‘exceptional or intermediate‘ rate means you may also qualify to get the Exceptionally Severe Disablement Allowance. War pension claimants should contact Veterans UK (see further details below for Veterans benefits).

As a rule, all benefits, pensions, and allowances get paid into a bank account or other suitable banking institution.

You must report any changes to your circumstances. Circumstantial changes can affect how much attention allowance you get. Examples could be if you, or the person you claim for, goes into hospital or needs increased help.

    Constant Attendance Allowance Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility for attendance allowance depends on which disability support benefits you already get. To qualify for the Constant Attendance Allowance criteria you must be claiming either the War Disablement Pension or the Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (IIDB).

If you get IIDB you must also need daily care and attention. The constant carers allowance is for those who need home nursing or help with preparing or eating food. The claimant should also get considered as 100% disabled – based on a medical examination.

You get automatic entitlement for the Constant Attendance Allowance when you get your medical examination for the IIDB. That is providing your disability gets considered as a 100% assessment.

If you get a War Disablement Pension you must need personal help for the same reasons that you get a war pension. You should also be getting a war pension of 80% or more to make a claim for the Constant Attendance Allowance.
