Use the same process for any new claims even if you already receive other benefits.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2>Applying for other Benefits at the Same Time<\/h2>\n<p>A claim for Housing Benefit can also be part of an application for other benefits and allowances. But, the type of benefit you are claiming for will determine how to apply for Housing Benefit payment.<\/p>\n<h4>ESA, Income Support, or Jobseeker&#8217;s Allowance<\/h4>\n<p>Contact the nearest Jobcentre Plus to make a claim at the same time as an application for these benefits:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"\/rules\/employment\/benefits\/entitlement\/esa\/\">Employment and Support Allowance<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"\/rules\/employment\/benefits\/entitlement\/income-support\/\">Income Support<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"\/rules\/employment\/benefits\/jobseekers\/allowance\/\">Jobseeker&#8217;s Allowance<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: The Jobcentre Plus office will send all the details of your claims to your local council.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jobcentre Plus<\/strong><br \/>\n\tTelephone: <a href=\"tel:08000556688\">0800 055 6688<\/a><br \/>\n\tTextphone: <a href=\"tel:08000234888\">0800 023 4888<\/a><br \/>\n\tMonday to Friday: 8am to 6pm.<\/p>\n<h4>Pension Credit<\/h4>\n<p>If you are applying for Pension Credit at the same time you should contact the Pension Service. They will send all the details of your claim for Housing Benefit to the local authority.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pension Service<\/strong><br \/>\n\tTelephone: <a href=\"tel:0800991234\">0800 99 1234<\/a><br \/>\n\tTextphone: <a href=\"tel: 08001690133\">0800 023 4888<\/a><br \/>\n\tMonday to Friday: 8am to 6pm<br \/>\n  <a href=\"\/rules\/call-charges\/\">Find out national call charges<\/a><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h4>Universal Credit<\/h4>\n<p>As a rule, you cannot receive <a href=\"\/rules\/employment\/benefits\/housing-benefit\/\">Housing Benefit<\/a> and <a href=\"\/rules\/employment\/benefits\/universal-credit\/\">Universal Credit<\/a> at the same time. Some exceptions apply for people who are in certain kinds of supported housing.<\/p>\n<p>You may get some help to pay for housing with a payment from Universal Credit instead. If so, the payment must go direct to the landlord.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2>Claiming in Advance and Backdating Housing Benefit<\/h2>\n<p>Some claims can take place up to 13 weeks in advance (17 weeks for people aged 60 or over). It usually applies if you are moving homes. But, you do not usually get the money before the move. Contact the council if you want to get a claim backdated.<\/p>\n<h4>Appealing a Housing Benefit Decision<\/h4>\n<p>Local councils handle Housing Benefit appeals. You should contact your local council to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/appeal-housing-benefit-decision\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">appeal a housing benefit decision<\/a>.
