A Tournament Reshaped by Ownership Turmoil
A South Asian T20 League has not experienced nearly as many changes to franchises as the LPL. The Jaffna franchise has won four titles, while the Kandy franchise has won only one title in league history. The sixth edition of the LPL will take place from July 10 through August 5, with the newly renovated Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC), located in Colombo, hosting its inaugural event as an LPL venue. In addition to being part of the venues for the LPL, the SSC was also renovated to accommodate five of the games that were held during the ICC T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka, which included the opening game of Pakistan vs. the Netherlands.
All matches will be hosted by either the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo, the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy, or the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium. For the first time since the inception of the LPL, there are now three locations where fans can watch games; this is going to increase national fan accessibility considerably.
