Medical Rules and Laws

Rules and regulations which affect medical law, therapeutic medicines, and pharmaceutical ethics are a fascinating field of study in the United Kingdom.

MEDICAL LAWS: Advances in medical research and new technologies are constantly shifting the boundaries of medicine and corrective therapy in our lives.

Hence, patients’ legal rights increasingly take centre stage.

This is particularly true as new medico-legal health issues emerge and develop further in clinical practice.

In this medical rules section, we strive to explore and simplify the realities of human health.

We aim to explain the complex interrelationships between patients and healthcare professionals – our lives depend on medical law and ethics.

Medical Rules Guide

BMA Council sets overall policy which is informed by the needs of grassroots doctors, as determined by the BMA Representative Body, which itself is drawn from branch of practice and regional committees throughout the UK.

General Medical Council

We help to protect patients and improve medical education and practice in the UK by setting standards for students and doctors. We support them in achieving and exceeding those standards, and take action when they are not met.

On these pages we provide basic information about your rights to health care, the NHS complaints procedure, how much health care costs and we direct you to other specialist agencies who can provide you with help and more detailed information.

Private Healthcare – Get information on what to think about when buying private health care insurance. Find out what to do if you disagree with what you have been charged for private healthcare or have problems paying. Learn how to complain. Armed Forces and Veterans Healthcare

Medicines

The rules in this section are designed to ensure that advertisements that include health claims (please see Section 13 for health claims made on foods) and advertisements for medicines, medical devices and treatments receive the necessary high level of scrutiny.

Health claims may, for example, relate to the therapeutic or prophylactic effects of products, including toiletries and cosmetics. Medical Devices and Treatments.

Note: Any website that sells medicines must register for the Distance Selling logo and display it. The public can search the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) register to check if a website can legally sell medicines online.

Royal College of Physicians

The core mission of the Royal College of Physicians is driving improvements in health and in healthcare through advocacy, education, and through research.

The RCP is an independent, patient centered, and clinically led organisation. They drive improvements in the diagnosis of disease, in the care of individual patients, and in the health of the whole population in United Kingdom and worldwide.

Royal College of Surgeons

Information about best practices for cosmetic surgery and standards set by clinical guidelines and plastic surgeons in the United Kingdom. There appears to be little public knowledge about the rules on plastic surgery and especially so in the UK.
