Having a list of 2022 bank holidays is useful for taking time off work and planning UK holiday entitlement.
In fact, it was the ‘Bank Holidays Act 1871’ which first established bank holidays in the United Kingdom.
The ‘Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971’ superseded it a century later. It remains in force as of 2022 in the United Kingdom.
This Act designated four (4) bank holidays for official observance in England, Wales, and Ireland. They are Easter Monday, Whit Monday, Boxing Day in England and Wales, and St Stephen’s Day in Ireland.
England, Wales, and Ireland consider Good Friday and Christmas Day as ‘traditional days of rest’. They deemed it unnecessary to include them in the Act because they were considered to be like Sundays.
And what about Scotland?
Scotland observes five bank holidays each year. They are New Year’s Day, Good Friday, the First Monday in May, the First Monday in August, and Christmas Day.
