UK energy suppliers operate the £140 Warm Home Discount payment. The WHD scheme provides financial aid to those who need it most to help pay winter energy bills.

But, not everyone qualifies for the Warm Home Discount Scheme. Some people will need to apply each year to get consideration for payment.

The WHD scheme operates throughout the coldest months between September and March. Payment is a one-off discount taken off the consumer's electricity bill. The money is not a direct payment made to you!
Those who use a pre-pay or a pay-as-you-go electricity meter may still qualify for the discount. In some cases, you would get a voucher for topping up your meter. Contact your electricity supplier for more information.

The method used to apply for the Warm Home Discount Scheme will depend on how you qualify for the £140 discount.
The qualifying date for the Warm Home Discount scheme 2018 was the 8th of July 2018. Eligibility depends on all these applying to your situation on the qualification date.

You may not qualify for WHD if you do not get the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit. But, check with your electricity supplier for other options. They may be able to offer alternative help for those who are:

The WHD scheme can offer cheap gas and electric for low income families. Does your energy supplier provide you with gas and electricity?
If so, you might get the discount on your gas bill instead. Contact your supplier to find out if you can get help with electric or gas bills.
People who qualify should receive a letter by the 7th of December 2018 at the latest. The Warm Home Discount form will have further information informing you whether:
